things...

...lots of new work in progress. Have 5 canvas's and 9 lino block pieces going, with lots of velvet underground and doors blasting along the way(and wayyy to much wine) This weekend I worked an agreement to show some of my art at Room Fine Art Gallery in San Rafael. So for the next four months some pieces will be shown there. Ill try to get some pics up soon but honestly right now, the facebook page is easier for me to deal with and reach people quicker. In fact, im thinking of changing the "interface" link to go to the facebook site instead. It's done much much better for me and I think in todays faster paced mobile times, that is just a better avenue.

In the meantime, my new portfolio is out. You can check it out on the main site now under "memoir" or at http://www.sorianoart.com/memoir.html

Shine on you crazy Diamond

its been awhile since I really posted anything of substance. sure some art, pieces in progress, but even then I've sort of gotten behind the 8-ball because the new facebook fan page(www.facebook.com/sorianoart). The reality is I have sort of had a smal case of artists block, or at least things not going my way

After 3 or 4 straight pieces that I loved I hit a wall with some new stuff. And a certain night the other day with a run in caused me to, shall we say, get a little wild on a pieces and essentially destroy it. And while thats pretty cool conceptually, its led to diffaculties painting what I see onto the canvas.

Cure for that? New music, and a new process. I downloaded Pink Floyd's "wish you were here" album, and ode to former guitarist Syd Barret, who quite literally fell into madness. The kicker, he was a painter first and foremost. The dark, ambient, melodic sounds and 15 min long tracks were able to put me in a mindset away from rage and more into darkness. And since, things have been working. Late nights, some smokes, vodka, the floyd and paint on old canvas's has led to some new works just being fleshed out. Wait and see.

Now theres a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky

For those of you who read this blog...

...I've also recently(last night) set up a fan page on facebook to help spread word, better communicate en masse with people, and all that other stuff that makes the 'book a seemingly necessary evil. Soooooo.....if you are on the FB and want to "like" it, please refer to ...

www.facebook.com/SorianoArt

Don't worry, I will still be using the blog as my main means of communicating ideas ideas, thoughts, and in progress works. The FB is more a compliment to this, in the ver increasing and invasive world of social media

version 1.2

originally I had planned on taking a small art break after my book, How to destroy an Angel, to focus on finding a publisher for my novel. As well as working on a new one. as it turns out, certain events jump started me into creating quite a bit of new work, work that I think is some of the best stuff I've done. So when the time came for a new round of portfolios sent out, I decided that I would do an update of the current one, version 1.2, bfore I send it out. So keep an eye out here for when its launched.

So...if you haven't gotten one of the existing ones, I'd say hold off for another couple weeks and you can get the updated one. Theres a few of you out there whom I know personally, who got one right away, I'll see to it you get the update.

36 Hours with no sleep in vegas...

...was an interesting time, and for the most part has nothing to do with these pics. But it gave Nina an idea of me staying up as much as possible, for seep deprivation painting. Which I just may do. In the meantime heres the two latest pieces I've done

48"x36" oil on Canvas. A shitload of oil in fact. The piece is quite heavy. The pictures don't really do the texture justice, its about 1.5 inches thick at points.

the other has been sitting around for a bit and I hadn't finished it. But came up with a couple things after working on the above one, and finished her up tonight

2/x3/ oil, ink. glass, circuit boards on canvas

Enter Aislin....

..as she modeled for me thursday night for some time. And out of this bore a few interesting pieces that you see below. All consisting of just black and white primer Gesso on paper. Exercises , but of interest nonetheless. All in the 24-30" range.

While these are being done, something far more monstrous is being created on an old canvas that may finally be the disgusting beauty I've yearned for. Or in the least, something much uglier than usual.

I'll never look into your eyes......again.

Been a bit quiet, but still been working. Some things in the mix, including a possible re-locate to europe for a bit. not sure yet, much to ponder, who knows. The novel is printed in an authors proof, and trying to decide what to do with that. In the meantime, heres my latest piece, finished and ready to go.

6' tall and about 5' wide or so.

arrows

he gazed deep upon her
as she descended down
golden hair ablaze
wings of snow, and a silver crown

the world stood frozen
a deer in the beams
the chorus grew deafening
with an ethereal scream

Without a word, she drew her bow
and a shadow moved across his sun
finding his soul, within her sight
she released her arrow
he closed his eyes

In the meantime, I have two new pieces being worked on, and I think these will be a major step forward. no pics yet

Cinders

As the cinders fall,
the paint flows.
Igniting the fire
only an angel can can know

Engulfed in the flame,
ecstasy in the air.
Drunk on the taste
of sweet despair.

What if?

It's official, I will be self publishing my novel "In the Shadow of Eternity", very shortly. I will keep you updated as it comes together. But very soon, it will be available for purchase on the site, from me in person, or from the Amazon Kindle store. In the meantime, I will leave you with the back cover text.....

What if effects preceded causes? What if action followed reaction? What if time flowed in both directions, and your past, present, and future existed simultaneously? What if free will did not exist, and that your choices were not your own? What if all that you are and all that you will ever be was already decided for you? What if these unmade choices still determined what happened when you died? What if you lost the ability to discern reality from a dream? What if there were multiple realities? What if those who were trying to kill you, were in fact trying to save you? What if everything you ever wanted was taken from you, and there was nothing you could do about it? What if you knew all of this, yet there was nothing you could do?

What if you could escape?

Would you?

Doubt thou the stars are fire...

well the website is all done up. if you are here, of course you already know. all I have left to do is write something regarding the new book in the memoir section. we'll see. some new pieces a foot. been doing my best to conjure up my inner Morrison, a lot of vodka, fury, the doors blarring, shirtless painting. pretty much fully letting loose in the worst way. Morrision said hate is a very underrated emotion, and he was right.

on top of that, I've been mulling around the idea of self publishing my novella "In the Shadow of Eternity". not sure yet, but if I do it will be very inexpensive to print, so thats a plus. stay tuned.

Portfolio finished.....

and ready to order. 118 pages. Hopefully a game changer in many ways. On top of that, we have a whole slew of website changes that I hope heather is working on as I type. The folio will be available online in its full form, and if you wanna buy it for some reason you can do that as well. It will just be at the cost of printing so it will be the least $$$ I could possibly get it.

In the meantime heres the final piece done for the Folio.

NO clever title here....

...just the pieces I promised. Two newer pieces I have been working on. Both are departures from what I have been doing in certain senses. The first one is Alkyd on paper. I wanted to keep the basic style I have been evolving lately, but with a much brighter background with a better feel of movement. I wanted to keep it more of a "sketch". The idea of mixing the HDA theme of darkness and death with an explosion of brightness appealed to me, and I wanted to try out that dynamic. No wings or angel imagery in this one(yet), but the contrast of beautiful and death/decay I think speaks for itself

The second one is another full on experiment a'la the silver HDA Piece. I really wanted to get something dark and disturbing, with a lot of mixed media elements added to flesh it out, al while developing "my" style(whatever that means). I just kept adding things I have wanted to try with reckless abandon, basically let go of reservation about "ruining" the piece and said "fuck it" I am just going to do it all. I actually quite like how it came out. I don't think it will be one of my more popular pieces, but I think its a welcome addition to the HDA evolution
